My name is Glendora Paxton, my friends call me Glenny. I began pottery in 2009. It was something I always wanted to try and kept putting off. There was always something else that came first, work, horses, etc. In fact I think it intimidated me a little. I didn’t have a creative streak in my body….or so I thought! Then, my husband of three years gave me a Christmas gift of a pottery throwing class and I was off! I then took a hand building class and loved that too! The classroom was a bit of a drive and I decided I wanted a wheel. I took all my gold jewelry and sold it (I didn’t have much!) and purchased a Shimpo wheel and set up my own studio in my basement. Next I found an old kiln on Craig’s list and had it repaired and a computer put on it, I was moving right along! My husband and in-laws are very supportive and before you know it I had a slab roller, another Christmas gift.
I have a lot to learn and it’s sooo much fun trying new and interesting techniques. My pots get better every day and the more I try new things the better it gets. My personality is starting to show in my work and I can’t wait for that to develop more.
My goal is to enjoy myself and make something useful and beautiful at the same time. Who knew you could have so much fun playing in the mud!
